      <image:title>Portfolio - Self Portrait</image:title>
<image:caption>Self Portrait In a year filled with uncertainty, stress, and scarcity, 2020, the artist created a self portrait in examination of who she felt like she was within. Despite the bleak reality of the beginning throws of the COVID-19 pandemic, the artist found herself with lots of time to self reflect on her herself and her womanhood. The creation of this painting stemmed from the desire to escape the reality of quarantine into a new reality. One where she could feel peace, freedom, and connection, in a time filled with fear and doubt. The use of greens, blues, and purples are to emphasize the surreal and dreamy nature surrounding her. The surrounding flowers symbolizing the artist’s desire to escape to a natural and almost ethereal landscape, instead of returning to the cold reality of the world. Watercolor, gouache, and colored pencil on cold-press watercolor paper. 11×17</image:caption>

      <image:title>About - About The Artist</image:title>
<image:caption>Skyy Phillips is a multi-media painter and crochet artist and fashion designer based in New York City. Skyy became an artist because she always created things. The more she grew as an artist by learning different mediums and skillsets, the more she chose to follow art as her calling. Her work is based on the beauty in nature, people, and flowers, and synthesizing a new connection to them by making them in different mediums. Key elements in her painting work are a dream-like atmosphere, glowing objects and contrasting lighting. Key elements in her crochet work include ruffle detailing, faux-fur yarn trimming, and beading.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - Death and Rebirth</image:title>
<image:caption>The artist wanted to communicate the importance of “The Death Card” in Tarot in their own reinterpretation of the meaning of death. Death in tarot is not a literal interpretation, but a symbol for change and transformation. The composition of the painting is cyclical, displaying the cycle of life in the form of a butterfly (a widely used symbol of transformation). The planet in the background is Neptune, the planetary symbol for inspiration and transformation. Change is a piece of humanity and the cycle our everyday life. Gouache, watercolor, and colored pencil on cold-pressed watercolor paper.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - The Moon</image:title>
<image:caption>The moon's nature has been connected to humanity for as long as we have both co-existed. The artist wanted to use the duality of the moon's magical elements, with the reality of the moon's power connecting to water and life. Using fluorescent coloring, the artist communicates the supernatural nature of the moon and its reflection. The subject in the center is the moon's spirit communicating with the full moon's second spirit. Gouache and watercolor on canvas board, 8×8</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - The Lovers</image:title>
<image:caption>This take on the lover's card is one about the symbolism of how the language of flowers communicates love. Daffodils blooming, the symbol of the start of spring, also takes on many other meanings. They are symbolic of love for a 10th anniversary, of joy and happiness in general, and as a congratulatory flower for graduations. Love blooms in many ways, and flowers are just another way to communicate that love. Digital, 8.5 x 11</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - You Are The Ocean</image:title>
<image:caption>In this painting the artist uses inspiration from the TV show Euphoria to represent the union of the vastness and wonder of the ocean to the representation of femininity. Jules, (played by Hunter Schafer) desires to be and feel as beautiful as the ocean, the ocean being a metaphor for how she feels about her womanhood. Salt-water pearls, starfish, and Tahitian pearls are all displayed on the body to show the variety of lively and beautiful things that exist as part of the sea.
